Sorry, did not read the original question carefully. The correct answer for this question is 5.

One of the answer can be the five queens take the following positions: a1, c7, d3, g8, and h4.

Of coz 6x6 is a typo, do you think you can use it as a chess board, or shall we even call it a chess board? Reduce its size by 2 also make the question of less value, if not worthless.
